Expecting a cheque that never comes? Still waiting for delivery of an online purchase? Mail being delivered to an old address? Traditional mail services can be inconvenient, especially if there’s a strike or if you move. Break free from the constraints of the postal service with these six faster, greener, or more affordable solutions.

1. Get your invoices by email

Say goodbye to paper invoices by signing up for online billing for the services you subscribe to. Once your invoice is ready, you’ll receive an email with your balance and a link to the full account statement. It’s as simple as that!

At Videotron, Helix subscribers automatically receive their invoice by email. If you still receive a paper invoice for other services, you can sign up for online billing in the Customer Centre.

Online invoices cut down on paperwork, are accessible 24/7, and help protect the environment. They let you keep your billing history in your online account. And you don’t have to wait for snail mail.

2. Automate your payments

Never miss a payment! Schedule preauthorized payments for invoices that are due each month, such as electricity and telecommunications. Once that is done, the invoices are paid automatically, and you typically receive an email notification when your invoice has been paid. In the habit of mailing a cheque? By automating your payments, you no longer need to lift a finger!

With Videotron, you have two options for automatic payments: a debit from your bank account or a payment to your credit card.

Preauthorized payment from a bank account is the recommended method. It allows you to avoid credit card interest charges and payment interruptions if a card has expired or been replaced. It’s the method that gives you the most peace of mind.

3. Opt for other courier services

Depending on the retailer, online orders might be delivered by Canada Post or by a third-party shipping service. Sometimes you have the option for a more expensive expedited delivery via a shipping service rather than regular mail. Check the delivery options available when ordering online.

Good to know
Videotron equipment is delivered by Planète Courrier. If there is a labour dispute affecting the postal service, shipments are not disrupted.

4. Pick up your purchases in-store

Many businesses offer the option to place an order online and then pick it up from the store. This allows you to take advantage of speedy ordering (no need to walk the aisles to find what you’re looking for!), while avoiding long delivery times. Ask how long it takes for your purchase to be ready to be picked up at the store.

5. Say hello to electronic signatures

Advances in IT security have eliminated the need to sign paper documents. You can now sign on the dotted line digitally. Even large transactions, such as buying a house, can be completed with electronic signatures.

Software such as Adobe Sign allows you to create secure signatures. The free version of the PDF reader, Adobe Reader, can also be used to create a signature that you draw, type manually, or import from a photo, but these methods are not secure.

6. Do your paperwork online

Do you need to renew your driver’s licence, change your address, or send in your tax return or any other official document? First, check whether you can do it online. Many public services have digital platforms that you can use from the comfort of home. You can also choose direct deposit to get your government benefits quickly. More autonomy, more freedom!

By implementing just these few changes, you’ll gain autonomy, efficiency, and peace of mind. Making life easier is always a good idea!
